Salem, OR — A 33-year-old woman was transported to the hospital after suffering heavy bleeding and passing large blood clots following a medication abortion at the Planned Parenthood “health center” in Salem, Oregon, according to emergency dispatch records obtained by Operation Rescue.
The incident occurred on April 13, 2026, at the abortion mill located on Wolverine Street in Salem. Emergency dispatch records show that first responders were called for a 33-year-old woman experiencing “heavy vaginal bleeding, passing large clots, feeling faint” after undergoing a “medication related procedure.”
Emergency personnel transported the woman via ambulance to Salem Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Her condition after transport remains unknown.
Proof in the Papers
This case came to light only after a lengthy public records process. Initially, Salem officials provided Operation Rescue with a heavily redacted copy of the 911 recording that omitted medically crucial details, all non-identifiable. For example, the term “medication related procedure” could mean different things at a hospital versus at an abortion clinic. However, at Planned Parenthood it would undoubtedly indicate a medical abortion.
Still, an over-redacted report, like the one provided, intentionally makes it impossible to know for sure. After reviewing the materials, Operation Rescue submitted a request for clarification and supporting documentation.
As a result of that follow-up request, the city released the full CAD report. Although identifiable portions of the audio remained redacted by law, the records substantiated the key fact that this emergency was the result of a medication abortion and confirmed the medical necessity of an ambulance transport and hospitalization. Without persistent follow-up requests from OR’s investigative team, the public would have remained unaware of the severity of this woman’s condition and key details proving that a medical abortion was the cause of this incident.
Abortion Pill Dangers
“While pro-abortion advocates frequently characterize ‘abortion pills’ as safe and routine, emergencies such as this woman’s uncontrollable bleeding demonstrate again that significant complications—even requiring hospitalization—can and do occur,” says Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.
The abortion pill regimen, typically consisting of mifepristone and misoprostol, carries known and documented risks that include excessive bleeding, infection, incomplete abortion, and the possible need for emergency medical intervention.
“Even the FDA admits they received complication reports,” Newman adds. “And while women are instructed to seek immediate medical attention by the FDA if they experience severe bleeding or other signs of a serious complication, abortion clinics often tell women to lie to emergency room doctors, telling medical professionals that they are having a natural miscarriage instead of a drug-induced abortion – key medical information that a doctor needs to know to ensure the best life-saving care.”
Permission to Kill—and Harm
The abortion pill has become the most common method of abortion in the United States in recent years. Legal efforts have aimed to reduce (and continue to reduce) restrictions and guidelines on medical abortion protocol. Access to these abortion drugs has greatly expanded and become as easy as a phone call or video chat through telemedicine services and mail-order distribution.
Oregon is one of the nation’s most permissive abortion states. State law broadly protects abortion access and permits medication abortions to be provided by what they call “healthcare professionals,” which includes not only doctors or nurse practitioners, but also the most basic nurse. Oregon policymakers have even enacted measures designed to shield abortion providers and expand access to abortion drugs. According to official numbers, in 2024, 63% of the abortions that happened in Oregon were medication abortions.
At the federal level, controversy continues over the regulation of abortion pills. The rapid expansion of chemical abortion, easy access without physician oversight, and promotion of this process as “just popping a few pills” may increase the risk that complications go undetected until a woman requires emergency care.
Lingering Questions
Although dispatch records cannot establish the woman’s final outcome, they clearly document a post-abortion emergency involving heavy bleeding, large blood clots, and symptoms suggesting significant blood loss.
Did she recover? How many other women like her need help? What happens to women who bleed like this at home and don’t know what to do?
“What we know for sure is that another woman required emergency medical assistance following a chemical abortion—a reality that stands in stark contrast to claims that abortion pills are free from serious risks,” Newman says. “Operation Rescue will continue investigating abortion emergencies and pursuing public records that shed light on the true face of abortion. Both chemical and surgical abortions come with serious life-threatening risks for the mother, and are always accompanied by the brutal death of a child. Operation Rescue will never stop bringing this dark truth to light as we work to abolish abortion in America.
